Rony Zakaria was born in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. He studied Mathematics and Computer Science in college before started his career as a photographer.

He studied photography at Antara Gallery of Photojournalism in 2006. In mid 2007, he was invited to join a group of young Asian photographers under 30 and participated on a workshop held at Angkor Photography Festival, Cambodia.

His works have been published in many publications, including TEMPO weekly magazine, Koran Tempo, The Jakarta Post and Asian Geographic. He had his first group exhibition in April 2007 where his work "From Zero to Hero", about a former separatist group member who run for governorship in Aceh, was exhibited in Jakarta. His work varies from political, environmental to social issues.

He works independently and based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
